Like the community we serve, the people at CMI Publishing are passionate about the great outdoors.
Bob Harris was born & raised in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan and enjoyed those days when he could help his dad on the family farm. The original homestead was in the Harris family for more than 100 years and it’s an honour to be a small part of that heritage. Some of my fondest childhood memories were at the farm: the sunsets, driving the old John Deere, and the fragrances – which have lingered in my mind over the decades. The horses our forefathers had on the farm were long gone by the time I was put to work, but the connection to our rural agriculture lifestyle is strong. It is a privilege to help our readers not only understand more about our authentic western Canadian culture, but to encourage you to experience it.
Larry Thomas – We are pleased to announce Larry Thomas has joined the CMI team as editor of Experience The Cowboy Trail. While Larry grew up cowboying, logging and fly-fishing across BC, for the past three decades he’s called the southern Alberta foothills home. Larry comes with a flavoured history as a photojournalist and editor. After earning his masters degree in animal science and range/pasture management at the University of Saskatchewan he began writing for the Canadian Cattlemen Magazine where he became associate editor and worked for over two decades. In recent years Larry worked with the Canadian Cattlemen’s Association as well as writing and editing print, web and B2B materials for several entities through his small business. He lives north of Millarville, a stone’s throw west of the Cowboy Trail, and continues to be involved in local land, water and growth management initiatives. Larry is a keen fly-fisher and outdoorsman and loves exploring the backcountry of western Alberta. He and spouse Leslie raise horses and operate a small Haskap (blue honeysuckle) berry farm.

Kelly Shultz – My life perspective has been enriched by Canada’s mountain parks. Having grown up in Golden, BC, in the middle of some of the most stunning natural scenery in the world, the beauty of Canada is my life. Since 2007, this has been enhanced with my involvement on the CMI Team and promoting Canada’s wild beauty. I have observed up close Grizzly & Black bears with cubs, wolves, coyotes, deer, elk, moose and mountain goats. Tourist accessibility and wildlife preservation are enhanced by Canada’s improved road and wildlife overpass systems. Come and enjoy the best the world has to offer.
Helen Foulger grew up in South Africa, where I spent happy times in the game reserves, swimming in the oceans and hiking in the Drakensberg mountains. We made Calgary, Alberta our home in 1997 and are thrilled to have the stunning mountain parks and all they have to offer in our back yard. What better place to raise two sons who love the outdoors!
Dale Schultz grew up in Golden, a small town in the heart of the mountain parks. His love for activities in the mountains developed at an early age and has only grown over time. Hiking, camping, berry picking, biking are among the mountain activities still enjoyed for long periods each year. As a resident of Kelowna now it has become possible for Dale to enjoy a wide variety of mountain experiences in the vast network of provincial and national parks throughout the whole region. He is looking forward to many more years of enjoying and sharing his love of mountain experiences with others.

Dan Clements lives in Drumheller, Alberta a town widely recognized as the “Dinosaur Capital of the World”. Drumheller is located in the heart of the Canadian Badlands and home to the Royal Tyrrell Museum and the “World’s Largest Dinosaur.”
In 2006, Dan & his wife Jean moved from Saskatchewan to retire in Drumheller. However, retirement has not come easily for these two incredibly energetic friends (more on that later). You see Dan & Jean have owned and operated three businesses together. They like to stay active. Maybe that’s part of the reason why they bought a new RV recently and travel regularly back to Saskatoon to be with their son, his wife and their three children.
In addition to travel and family, Dan has a passion for music and has a collection of about 16 guitars.
Dan brings a lifetime of knowledge to his new position with CMI. After a short eye-opener with the Saskatoon City Police Department, Dan ventured into automotive mechanics. However, a sales career was his ultimate calling. Over the years, Dan has sold a variety of products and services including, but not limited to, advertising, vacuum cleaners, industrial chemicals, and real estate. Actually this is where Bob (CMI’s publisher) and Dan’s paths first crossed almost 40 years ago. You see, they worked together at Century 21 in Saskatoon for several years!
Based in St. Albert, Alberta, Ian Klein brings over 35 years’ experience in the travel industry to CMI Publishing. Over his wide-ranging career as part of the Alberta Motor Association’s travel services team, Ian has had the opportunity to travel extensively and establish strong ties to the travel and tourism industry.
Since retiring in August 2016, he has focused on the important things in life; spending time with his family, hiking, biking and cultivating his love of photography. Ian looks forward to hitting the road in his RV and exploring all that Western Canada and the United States has to offer.
Ian invites his friends to call him for more information. Phone (780) 459-2762, or Email: Ian@cmiPublishing.ca
