The Gathering
There are poets and pickers and singers
There are fans who are living the past
There are young sprouts who want to be cowboys,
And cowboys who want it to last.
They all meet at Trail’s End in High River;
Each fall there’s a Gathering there
Striving to capture the essence
Of the West and its Romantic Affair
With a near mythical figure – The Cowboy,
A man of legend and grace
Who slides easily into his saddle,
The bronc about to lose face.
You’ll hear poets rhyming true stories
About the ranching and cowboy lifestyle
That will bring tears to your eyes, or deep laughter,
Depending on your view of the pile!
The songs are pure and authentic,
Traditionally true to the West,
They’re written and sung from the heart
By the cowboy living his quest.
Please remember Trail’s End in High River
A Gathering of cowboys, ranchers and fans;
You’ll experience true Western Tradition,
And we invite you to come if you can!

Eye of the Artist
Ever noticed your horse’s ear set, as you step for the stirrup to mount
Or admired his confirmation and muscles two plenty to count?
Can you vision a horse’s foot fall as he breaks from the jog to a lope
Anticipate action exploding as the bronc rider measures his rope
The eye of the artist that captures the essence of nature’s plan
Is a gift given from the Creator so mortals like us understand
That motion and mountains and horses are presents for artists to note
The song of the west growing silent if they don’t get’er down someone wrote
The Alberta Cowboy Poetry Association Presents…
The sculptor, the painter, the poet recording the west in its glory
The balladeer putting to music the makings of a good story
Of cowboys and eight second flurry, the blur of the hooley-ann wrist
When time turned it’s back on the bison, grazing away in the mist
We scurry in modern existence leaving little or no time for pause
To admire the flight of an eagle surviving by talon and claws
Our preoccupation with fortune, thankful there’s nothing we lack
Needs to include the artist who captures our heritage back
